Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple, has stated that as the legal environment in the US changes, his company may need to modify its diversity policies. His remarks were made minutes after a resolution urging the internet giant to think about removing its diversity practices, including the use of sex and ethnicity in hiring choices, was rejected by the majority of shareholders.

Apple stated that the bill was “inappropriately” attempting “to micromanage” its business, and it urged shareholders to vote against it. The day following the meeting, Trump increased the pressure on the business through social media posts.

In an all-capital-letters post, he stated that Apple should abolish the DEI regulations rather than merely amend them. “DEI was a scam that has caused significant harm to our nation. DEI has vanished!

Although Trump’s DEI orders have encountered judicial challenges, some US corporations, including well-known brands like Meta, Amazon, and Goldman Sachs, have already terminated or reversed their programs due to legal concerns. Tuesday’s vote was predictable because shareholder measures that firms reject rarely pass. After a similar rejection at retailer Costco, it was the second high-profile loss of a shareholder proposal aimed at DEI.
