During his meeting with King Charles III on Monday, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is anticipated to bring up US President Donald Trump’s recent threats to annex Canada. They met after the British queen, Canada’s head of state, was criticized by several Canadians for not formally addressing Trump’s remarks.

Speaking on Sunday in London, Trudeau stated that the two would talk about issues that are significant to Canadians. At this time, nothing seems more important to Canadians than defending our national sovereignty and independence,” he remarked.

Jason Kenney, a former premier of Alberta, defended the king for his public quiet, pointing out that the prime minister of Canada is the only person who can advise the monarch. He wrote on X, The Canadian government ought to request that the head of state emphasize Canadian sovereignty.

Lyle Skinner, a constitutional attorney, said he hoped Monday’s conversation would result in “the king making a statement regarding his Canadian realm. On whether Trudeau would formally request that Charles give a public statement, analysts are still split. McGill University political scientist Daniel Béland cautioned that it was a “very delicate diplomatic matter.
