Shortly after being launched from Texas on Thursday, a SpaceX rocket exploded, causing aircraft to be grounded and raising concerns about falling spaceship debris. According to SpaceX, the uncrewed ship lost communication with the earth after experiencing “a rapid unscheduled disassembly” during its journey into space.

Shortly after takeoff, the enormous SpaceX Starship the biggest rocket ever built sprang out of control. Images from island nations in the Caribbean Sea show flaming debris falling from the sky, but no injuries or damage have been reported.

After an hour of flight, the 123-meter (403-foot) spacecraft was supposed to reenter Earth’s orbit over the Indian Ocean. It was able to return to the launchpad thanks to its Superheavy rocket, which helped it lift off the ground.

According to entrepreneur Elon Musk’s company SpaceX, crews began coordinating with safety officials for “pre-planned contingency responses” right away. The statement also mentioned that the explosion occurred following the loss of “several” engines and that SpaceX would examine data “to better understand [the] root cause” of the misfire.
