On Tuesday, US President Donald Trump declared he will speak with Russian President Vladimir Putin about resolving the war in Ukraine. Over the weekend, a lot of work was completed. Late on Sunday night, Trump declared, “We want to see if we can end that war.” Adding, “I think we have a good chance,”

Last week, Ukraine agreed to a 30-day truce and halt in combat, which Trump is attempting to get Russia to support. We’ll be discussing land. Trump stated that the topic of power plants would be considered, and that the negotiators had already talked about “dividing up certain assets.

His remarks coincide with special envoy Steve Witkoff’s statement to CNN that a meeting between Trump and Putin is anticipated this week. According to Witkoff, who recently traveled to Moscow to advance talks, talks with Putin have been “positive” and “solutions-based.

He evaded queries about a number of more challenging elements of the ceasefire proposal, including whether Putin would call for the recognition of Ukrainian territory that Russia has captured as Russian, the surrender of Ukrainian forces in Kursk, and a stop to Ukraine’s military assistance.

Last Thursday, Putin declared his support for a truce but cited several issues that he claimed needed to be resolved, such as the situation of Ukrainian forces in Kursk, a territory in western Russia.
