Emmanuel Macron, the president of France, promised Ukraine an extra €2 billion in military assistance at a news conference in Paris on Wednesday night. The statement was made ahead of a crucial international summit for Ukraine’s long-term security on Thursday morning.

Armoured vehicles, ammunition, drones, Mistral air defence missiles, Milan anti-tank missiles, and MICA missiles for Mirage fighter jets are among the military hardware included in the new deal. The goal of the talks is to make sure Ukraine can continue to fend off new threats and uphold long-term security.

Regarding the difficult question of sending a reassurance force, Macron made it clear that they would not be fighting on the front lines.

The French leader stated that bolstering Ukraine’s military is the top priority, with the reassurance force’s possible deployment to maintain areas behind the front lines as a backup plan. These forces could be deployed to two possible locations: “strategic towns” and “bases.”

Alongside Macron, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the leader of Ukraine, expressed his optimism that the US would continue to uphold its commitment to implementing a ceasefire.

In Saudi Arabia, we’ve had some conversations with the US that have allowed us to access the US intelligence and assistance we require,” he said. “We are confident that America will has sufficient power to uphold the partial truce.
