On Tuesday, 102 French nationals who had been evacuated from Israel landed in Cyprus on a French military plane. The French Ambassador to Cyprus, Clélia Chevrier Kolačko said the plane flew from Tel Aviv to Larnaca.
I must sincerely thank the Cypriot government for providing them with sanctuary in Larnaca. And they will return to Paris tomorrow,” Kolačko stated. The flight out was organised by France’s Foreign Ministry, and the envoy said more are scheduled to arrive in Cyprus on Wednesday.
According to Jeremie Khiat, he was on holiday in Israel with friends and family when the missiles began to fly on June 8, the day the conflict between Israel and Iran broke out. He had been there for 15 days.
The French embassy informed them that a military plane would transport them out of Ben Gurion Airport on Tuesday, he added, while the initial intention was to escape to Egypt by bus on Monday. He was glad to get out, the Parisian remarked. Although there were a couple really frightening assaults, everyone is doing fantastically, Khiat said.
Cyprus has developed into a major transit centre for those who were evacuated from Israel and sent back to their home countries when the conflict began. On a cruise liner that transported evacuees, thousands of Israeli citizens who were trapped overseas have arrived in Cyprus in hopes of booking a trip or returning home.
