Ukrainian PM: Main Government Building in Kyiv Targeted in Latest Strike

Ukraine’s government has confirmed that its main administrative building in Kyiv was damaged for the first time since the start of the war, following overnight Russian attacks. Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko said the strike hit the roof and upper floors of the cabinet of ministers building, sparking a fire. The incident marks a major escalation, as central Kyiv has long been one of the most heavily defended areas of the country.

At least four people were killed nationwide in the latest wave of strikes, including a baby and a young woman, after a residential block was hit in the capital’s Svyatoshynsky district. Ukraine’s air force reported that Russia launched a record barrage of more than 800 drones and missiles, with nine missiles and 56 drones hitting 37 locations.

President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Moscow of committing “deliberate crimes” to prolong the war, while Russia claimed it had targeted Ukraine’s defense industry and transport infrastructure.

Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko suggested the cabinet building may have been struck by a drone intercepted mid-flight, though investigations are ongoing. It’s a symbolic strike  one that sends a clear message. Despite Russian President Vladimir Putin’s claims of being open to peace, the attack shows otherwise. Far from scaling back, Moscow is escalating its offensive, proving that talk of peace is little more than posturing.
