Following Drone Sightings, Flights at Copenhagen Airport Were Suspended

A post on X by live flight tracker FlightRadar24 stated that air traffic was suspended at Copenhagen Airport on Monday night owing to reports of drone sightings. Thirty-five flights headed for Copenhagen Airport had been rerouted to other airports as of 22:05 CET.

According to the post, the airports that saw the most flights were Malmö, Billund, Aarhus, and Gothenburg. Two to four “large” drones were seen in the vicinity, a police spokesperson told news agency Reuters.

There is a noticeable police presence around the airport, according to local media. When operations will resume as usual is unknown. According to Norwegian television NRK, a different drone incident occurred at Oslo’s airport that same evening, requiring all traffic to shift to a single runway. The incident’s cause is unknown, and traffic has already returned to normal.

A surge in Russian sabotage and several drone and fighter jet breaches into NATO airspace in recent weeks have raised security fears in northern Europe. The closing of the airport resulted in the diversion of at least 35 flights headed for Copenhagen, according to flight-tracking website Flightradar24.
