In a demand for long-range missiles to retaliate against Russia, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on the United States to extend sanctions on Russian oil from two businesses to the entire industry on Friday.
If a truce ends the more than three-year conflict, Zelenskyy was in London for discussions with two dozen European leaders who promised military assistance to protect his nation from future Russian attack.
The purpose of the meeting, which British Prime Minister Keir Starmer hosted, was to increase pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin and give new impetus to previous actions that have included a fresh round of UN and EU sanctions on Russia’s key oil and gas export revenues.
Zelenskyy has called on the United States to deploy Tomahawk missiles, a proposal that US President Donald Trump has mentioned but has not yet implemented. The Ukrainian leader called Trump’s decision to impose oil sanctions this week “a big step,” adding that pressure must be applied to all Russian oil businesses, not only Rosneft and Lukoil. Additionally, we are using drones and missiles to launch our own pressure campaign that targets the Russian oil industry,” he stated during a press conference held at the Foreign Office in London.
