The job has already started for those who bring the seasonal magic to life, even though Christmas may seem long off. A group of people work behind every December custom, such as visiting Santa’s workshop, going to the Christmas market, or skating on an ice rink, keeping things going and boosting the labor market.
Therefore, seasonal work openings are increasing as the holiday season draws near. Indeed, a marketplace for employment, reports that searches for these roles in 2025 peaked in early October, the most intense since the company’s records date back to 2018.
According to Indeed’s senior economist, Jack Kennedy, “the high level of interest in securing temporary holiday work during what is typically an expensive time of year may be influenced by cost-of-living pressures and limited opportunities across the jobs market generally.”
The UK labor market is still becoming softer, according to data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS). In the three months leading up to August 2025, the UK’s unemployment rate for those 16 and older increased from 4.7% in July to 4.8%.
Although experts have pointed out that the labor market slowdown is abating in comparison to previous months, separate data from HMRC revealed that the number of employees on firm payrolls fell by 10,000 in September.
