The President of Mexico will File Charges After Being Harassed on the Street

Claudia Sheinbaum, the president of Mexico, has declared that she will file charges against a guy who touched her inappropriately while she was in public. Sheinbaum is seen speaking to a group of fans on a street close to Mexico City’s National Palace in mobile phone footage of the event on Tuesday.

In the video, a man comes up behind her and tries to put his hands on her body and kiss her on the neck. Sheinbaum was clearly shaken as she swiftly retreated and a team member took over. The criminal has been taken into custody.

In my opinion, what will happen to other Mexican women if I don’t submit a complaint? What will happen to all women in our nation if they treat the president this way? Sheinbaum stated during a Wednesday press conference.

According to feminist pundits and women’s rights organizations, the episode demonstrates the degree of deeply embedded machismo in Mexican society, where a guy feels entitled to confront even the president if she is a woman.

A startling 98% of gender-based homicides in Mexico are thought to go unpunished, making femicide a major issue there as well. As a candidate, Sheinbaum pledged to address the problem, but during her term, there hasn’t been any appreciable decrease in violent crime.
