Following the Trump Summit, Syria will Join The US-led Coalition to Battle IS

A senior Trump administration official has announced that Syria will join the international coalition to fight the Islamic State group, signaling a change in US foreign policy in the Middle East. The news was made during President Donald Trump’s first-ever meeting with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa at the White House.

Al-Sharaa claimed the visit was a part of a “new era” in which the nation will work with the US in an interview with Fox News. Al-Sharaa was labeled a terrorist by the US government until recently, but Trump has stated that he supports him.

Syria will now be the 90th nation to join the international coalition, which aims to stop the influx of foreign extremists into the Middle East and destroy any surviving components of the so-called Islamic State.

The US Treasury Department, along with the departments of state and commerce, will announce additional measures to relax economic restrictions on Syria and offer “compliance clarity for investors,” a senior administration source revealed after the meeting.
