In a speech on Monday, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer will support the Chancellor’s Budget and pledge the government to move “further and faster” on pro-growth initiatives. He will claim that Chancellor Rachel Reeves’s remarks will ease the burden of living expenses, reduce inflation, and guarantee economic stability.
It coincides with concerns about the Treasury’s transparency regarding the public finances before to the Budget. Reeves, according to the Conservatives, deceived the public by being overly pessimistic about the state of the economy, even as official projections painted a more optimistic picture. No. 10 has defended Reeves’ statement and denied that she misled voters.
The prime minister will claim that “economic growth is beating forecasts” even though the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR) has downgraded growth starting next year, but more has to be done by the government to promote it. It is anticipated that Sir Keir would state that safeguarding investment and public services will further propel financial growth.
In addition, the prime minister will pledge to reduce “unnecessary red tape” in infrastructure, following a research that revealed the UK was now the world’s most expensive location to construct nuclear power infrastructure. He would demand that the industry undergo change and that “fundamentally misguided environmental regulation” be immediately corrected.
