European ministers urged for further pressure on Moscow on Wednesday, following US-Russia talks in which Vladimir Putin appeared to make no concessions to settle the Ukrainian war. Until I see something different, I’m going to continue to conclude that Russia does not want peace,” Sweden’s Maria Malmer Stenegard told reporters as she arrived at a NATO foreign ministers’ meeting.
That is why we must adhere to the two-point plan – intensify the support to Ukraine and raise the pressure on Russia – and we need to hit them where it hurts most, and that is the oil and gas income,” she went on.
The NATO ministerial session, which US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is skipping, comes a day after Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Donald Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, and his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, to discuss settling the conflict in Ukraine.
The last round of talks followed the release of a new peace plan allegedly hammered out between Washington and Moscow, which surprised Ukrainians and Europeans alike with its heavily pro-Russian leanings.
