The new National Security Strategy of US President Donald Trump has been hailed by Russia, which describes it as “largely consistent” with Moscow’s agenda. The 33-page document, which was released by the US government this week, does not portray Russia as a threat to the US and instead implies that Europe is undergoing “civilizational erasure.
Other priorities listed in the study include opposing the EU’s alleged “censorship” practices, stopping mass migration, and combating foreign influence. The policy was criticized by some EU officials and commentators, who compared its language to that of the Kremlin and questioned its emphasis on freedom of expression.
The statement states that “America encourages its political allies in Europe to promote this revival of spirit” and highlights the impact of “patriotic European parties” in sharp contrast. While expressing “questions” about the document, other officials emphasized the EU’s enduring connection with the US as it continues to negotiate a peace agreement in Ukraine with the Trump administration.
In the [NATO] alliance, the United States will continue to be our most significant ally. However, security policy concerns are the main emphasis of this partnership, according to German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul’s statement on Friday.
