Despite Petrol Shortages, Australians are Advised to Proceed With their Easter Travel Plans

Despite fuel shortages at hundreds of gas stations nationwide, the Australian government has urged people to proceed with their Easter travel plans.”Go take a break – but get no more fuel than you need,” Energy Minister Chris Bowen stated on Saturday. “Easter is a very special time of faith and family.”

Since the US-Israel war with Iran began and the Strait of Hormuz, a vital conduit for international oil and gas supplies, was effectively closed, fuel prices in Australia have skyrocketed. According to Bowen, 312 of Australia’s approximately 8,000 service stations have ran out of diesel, primarily in remote locations where stock replenishment takes longer.

He stated on television that the country had reserves of 30 days’ worth of jet fuel, 29 days’ worth of diesel, and 39 days’ worth of gasoline. Australia has been especially vulnerable to the disruption caused by the fighting and Tehran’s blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, as it imports almost 90% of its gasoline from the Middle East.

Governments around the world have taken steps to conserve fuel as a result of the near-complete halt to international trade through the crucial canal, which transports about 20% of the world’s natural gas and oil.
