If a Deal is not Reached by the Deadline, Trump Threatens to Destroy Iran One Night

US President Donald Trump has threatened to destroy Iran “in one night” if it doesn’t reach an agreement before the deadline he set for Tehran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a vital international energy conduit.

Trump has set a deadline of 20:00 Washington, DC time on Tuesday (00:00 GMT on Wednesday) for a “acceptable” agreement that includes the free flow of energy via the Gulf. Trump stated at the White House that while he thought “reasonable” Iranian leaders were negotiating in “good faith,” the conclusion was still up in the air.

Iran has called for a permanent end to the conflict and the easing of sanctions, rejecting calls for a temporary ceasefire. Days after US forces successfully retrieved two crew members of an F-15 fighter plane that was downed in southern Iran, Trump attended a news conference with General Dan Caine, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.

Trump reiterated his warning that the US may strike Iran’s energy and transportation infrastructure if the Strait of Hormuz was not reopened by Tuesday’s deadline, even though the most of his remarks focused on the crew’s “heroic” rescue.
