Melania Trump, the first lady, told reporters at the White House that any allegations connecting her to Jeffrey Epstein “need to end today.” The first lady demanded congressional hearings for victims of Epstein’s sex trafficking in an unexpected declaration on Thursday.
Additionally, she refuted internet rumors that Epstein introduced her to Donald Trump, characterizing them as “mean-spirited attempts to defame my reputation.” What led to the announcement is unknown.
Her staff had not previously indicated that she would speak about Epstein, and the White House had not previously discussed the subject before her remarks were scheduled for the day.
She said that Epstein, with whom she had just “crossed paths” in 2000, had not harmed her.”I’ve never heard of Epstein abusing his victims,” she remarked. “I never participated in any way. I didn’t take part. She denied knowing the disgraced financier Ghislaine Maxwell’s prison colleague.
Referring to a 2002 email exchange between her and Maxwell that was made public in the Epstein files, she described it as a “casual correspondence” and a “polite reply. An email that appears to be the one she mentioned is addressed to “G”possibly for Ghislaine and praises a New York Magazine article that featured “JE” along with a picture of G. She wrote that she “cannot wait” to visit Palm Beach.
