A Legislator Claims that Greenland is Very Happy With the EU For Their Backing in the Face of Trump’s Takeover Threats

Greenlandic politician Tillie Martinussen has thanked European nations and Canada for backing Greenland as it faced strong takeover claims from former US President Donald Trump. Speaking in an interview with Euronews Romania, the co founder of Greenland’s liberal Cooperation Party said the support showed Europe had learned from past mistakes and stood firmly with the island.

Martinussen said Greenlanders feel reassured by the response from the European Union and European allies, describing the current level of unity as encouraging. Her comments come after Trump recently renewed claims that the United States should take control of Greenland, an autonomous Danish territory, arguing it was vital for US national security.

The remarks caused tensions across the Atlantic, especially after Trump warned of trade penalties against European countries that defended Greenland. Martinussen said Denmark and Greenland have already invested heavily in Arctic security, responding to calls from NATO leaders, including Mark Rutte, to strengthen regional defence.

She also rejected Trump’s claims about threats from China and Russia, saying there is no evidence of Chinese military activity near Greenland. While she acknowledged concerns about Russia, Martinussen said Trump’s comments showed confusion about Greenland and even neighbouring countries.
