According to The Interior Ministry, Estonia Prohibits Russians who Fought in Ukraine From Entering the Nation

Estonia has banned 261 Russian nationals who fought in the war in Ukraine from entering the country, calling the move the first step in a wider effort. In a statement on Tuesday, Estonia’s Interior Ministry said individuals involved in atrocities in Ukraine have no place in democratic societies. The ban took effect last week and was announced by officials on Monday.

Estonia, which borders Russia, has been pushing for a broader European ban on visas for Russian veterans of the Ukraine war. Several Baltic and Nordic countries have backed the proposal. According to the ministry, up to 1.5 million Russians are estimated to have taken part in the full-scale invasion, with around half serving on the front lines.

Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna said the decision would not stop here and urged other countries to take similar action. Prime Minister Kristen Michal said holding those responsible for war crimes to account is key to Europe’s security and to achieving lasting peace. Ukraine welcomed the decision. Foreign Minister Andrij Sybiga described the entry ban as an important security measure and a strong message that those involved in the war will not escape responsibility.
