President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan has said that his nation is getting ready to sue Russia in international tribunals for the December 25 jet crash of Azerbaijan Airlines Flight 8243 near Aktau. 38 passengers were killed when the jet crashed near the Kazakh city of Aktau on the Caspian Sea when it was traveling from Baku to Grozny.
“We can say with complete clarity that the plane was shot down by Russia We are not saying that it was done intentionally, but it was done,” Aliyev stated in a national address three days after the incident. He then claimed that concerning the disaster, Baku had made three requests on Russia.
Even though the incident’s facts are “as clear as day,” Aliyev stated on Saturday that Azerbaijan has not received any significant response from Russia seven months after the disaster, according to Azerbaijani media source Minval.
The head of Russia’s Investigative Committee has received requests from the Azerbaijani prosecutor general, Aliyev said, but so far, he has only received the response, “The investigation is ongoing.” He reiterated Baku’s will to pursue international justice and called this position ineffective.
According to Aliyev, Azerbaijan has so notified Russia that it is putting up a dossier for a related case. Regarding the inquiry into the 2014 Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 disaster, which killed 239 lives.
