One of the most well-known movie actors in the Philippines, Nora Aunor, passed away at 71. On social media, Aunor’s children announced her death on Wednesday, but they did not disclose any other information on the cause of her death.
Her unparalleled skill, elegance, and love for the art moved generations. Her daughter and actor Lotlot de Leon wrote on Instagram, “Her voice, presence, and artistry shaped a legacy that will never fade.”
Aunor, who spent seven decades in television, music, and movies, was born into a low-income family in Iriga. In 2022, she received the Philippines’ highest accolade for the arts: National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts. Before transitioning to the cinema, where she accumulated over 200 credits in films and television shows, she became well-known as a singer in the 1960s.
Her role in the 1995 movie The Flor Contemplacion Story, which told the story of a Filipino maid who was put to death by Singapore for killing another domestic worker, stands out among her most notable roles.
In addition to receiving several other acting accolades during her career, Aunor’s depiction earned her domestic and international prizes. From 1975 to 1996, she was wed to Filipino actor Christopher de Leon, with whom she had five children.
