Attacks in the Gulf Persist as Major Industrial Facilities are Struck

As the US-Israel war against Iran began its fifth week, Gulf countries reported a string of attacks, including attacks on significant industrial infrastructure. An Iranian strike on a major aluminum plant in Abu Dhabi resulted in several injuries, according to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), with operator Emirates Global Aluminium reporting substantial damage.

An Iranian attack on one of the biggest aluminum smelting facilities in the world injured two workers, according to state-run Aluminium Bahrain. It comes after the Houthis, who are backed by Iran, entered the fight in Yemen on Saturday, sparking concerns about potential economic disruption should they attack Red Sea ships.

The group declared that it had attacked Israel with a flurry of missiles aimed at “sensitive” military locations, and it promised to keep doing so. Israel claimed to have shot down two Yemeni rockets.

Due to Iran’s effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a vital shipping route for global energy supplies between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman, oil and gas prices have already skyrocketed. Energy prices might rise if the Houthis were to attack shipping, as they did in support of Hamas after the conflict broke out in Gaza and after Hamas-led attacks on Israel on October 7, 2023.
