The Head of a Shipping Company Tells the BBC That the Expense of the Iran War will be Passed on to Customers

The head of the second-largest shipping company in the world has stated that consumers will bear the increased shipping expenses caused by the Iranian war.In an exclusive interview with the BBC, Vincent Clerc, the CEO of the massive Danish shipping company Maersk, stated,

We have traditional contracting mechanisms that pass on this fuel fluctuation, whether they go up or down onto the customers.”This implies that in the end, these increases will be passed on to our clients and consumers. He urged “some kind of deal” to be reached between the US, Israel, and Iran in order to reopen international economic lines in the Middle East.

The conflict between Iran, Israel, and the United States has severely disrupted the world economy and nearly stopped two crucial shipping lanes. The biggest shipping lines in the world are also avoiding the Red Sea due to security concerns. Clerc stated, “Ultimately we need to get back to something where freedom of navigation and peaceful navigation is restored.
