According to media reports on Sunday, Germany and the UK have inked a joint procurement contract worth 72 million dollars (about 61 million euros) to purchase cutting-edge artillery weapons on armored vehicles that can fire while moving and reach targets more than 70 kilometers distant.
The contract will first supply the British Army with a demonstrator of the RCH 155 system, according to the British Ministry of Defence. Furthermore, two units are scheduled to be deployed for testing in Germany. Rheinmetall and the Franco-German defense firm KNDS will produce the system. The government claims that the RCH 155 has a maximum firing rate of eight rounds per minute.
When Berlin and London decided to move on with the development of a long-range precision weapon in May, they had already reached an agreement on a collaborative armaments project. The project serves as the foundation for the recently concluded collaboration on contemporary long-range weapon systems. The goal is to increase the capacity for “deep precision strikes,” which can also be used to hit targets deep into the enemy’s hinterland.
The two nations also decided to work together more closely on submarine hunting in addition to the long-term initiative. This is based on a bilateral agreement on military cooperation known as the Trinity House Agreement.
