Bryan Kohberger has been sentenced to four consecutive life sentences after pleading guilty to the deaths of four Idaho students in November 2022. At a hearing on Wednesday, the 30-year-old former criminology student sat expressionless in an orange jumpsuit as he listened to hours of emotional statements from relatives of the victims he killed.
The case shocked Moscow, a small college town, and grabbed a national audience for about two months until Kohberger was apprehended. I’m so helpless to find anything redeemable about Mr Kohberger,” Judge Steven Hippler stated as he pronounced his sentence. “His actions have made him the worst of the worst.
Kohberger fatally stabbed housemates Kaylee Goncalves, Ethan Chapin, Xana Kernodle, and Madison Mogen in their off-campus residence early on November 13th. Two other housemates were not physically hurt.
Authorities worked for over six weeks to apprehend him, utilizing a DNA sample from a knife sheath he left at the crime site, as well as phone records and security images of his white vehicle. On December 30, Kohberger, who officials believe visited the students’ Moscow house numerous times before to the murders, was detained at his family home in Pennsylvania. He also received a 10-year term for burglary.
