Ex-World Champion Hatton Passes Away at 46

Former boxing world champion Ricky Hatton, nicknamed “The Hitman”, has died at the age of 46. He was found at his home in Manchester on Sunday morning, police confirmed. Authorities stated that his death is not being treated as suspicious.

Hatton was one of Britain’s most popular fighters, winning world titles at both light-welterweight and welterweight during his glittering 15-year career. He secured 45 victories out of 48 bouts, with famous wins over Kostya Tszyu and Jose Luis Castillo. His career also included high-profile fights against Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao before retiring in 2012.

Tributes poured in from the sporting world and beyond. David Beckham remembered him as “one of a kind” and said the news was “heartbreaking.” Heavyweight champion Tyson Fury called Hatton a “legend” and added that “there will only ever be one Ricky Hatton.” Former England striker Wayne Rooney, who once carried Hatton’s belts into the ring, said he was “devastated,” describing him as a “legend, a warrior and a great person.

Hatton’s deep ties to Manchester were reflected on Sunday when a minute of applause and chants of his name rang out before Manchester City’s Premier League clash with Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium. City boss Pep Guardiola described him as a “true champion” and part of the Man City family.
