A Tennessee military explosives production complex exploded Friday, leaving 19 workers unaccounted for. Following the massive explosion that destroyed a facility, Humphreys County Sheriff Chris Davis reported that numerous individuals were killed and that four or five were transported to a nearby hospital. “It’s gone, there’s nothing to describe,” he added.
Located about 56 miles (90 km) southwest of Nashville in Bucksnort, Tennessee, the facility specializes in the creation, production, processing, and storage of explosives. It’s still unknown what caused the explosion.
There was little left of the Accurate Energetic Systems-owned plant, charred rubble, and smoldering cars visible in aerial footage taken from the area. During his first media briefing of the day, Sheriff Davis, who was clearly upset, refused to provide an exact death toll. However, he pointed out that the facility was operational at the time of the incident and that first responders were compelled to avoid the area due to secondary explosions.
Employees who had just begun their workday “may be dead or missing now. We’re missing 19 souls,” Davis remarked. “I often refer to them as more than just a person when I have these kinds of events.
