President Donald Trump on Monday renewed his promise to tackle America’s deepening health care crisis, vowing to deliver a plan “very soon.” The pledge follows several previous attempts that failed to produce tangible results.
We’re going to be working on that very hard over the next short period of time, where the people get the money,” Trump said, referring to Americans affected by the expiration of enhanced Affordable Care Act subsidies. He hinted at a plan to send direct payments to impacted policyholders but offered no specific details.
The president’s impromptu remarks underscored the political risk facing his administration as the government shutdown nears its end. Democrats failed to secure an extension of the enhanced Obamacare subsidies, handing the health care issue squarely back to Trump and Republicans.
Millions of Americans, not only those enrolled in ACA plans, are struggling with rising premiums, steep deductibles, and broader cost-of-living pressures. Despite his repeated vows to fix the system, Trump still lacks a clear, comprehensive proposal to address the affordability crisis or expand coverage.
