While Moscow is stepping up its attacks on Ukraine, Russia’s foreign ministry blasted the US airstrike on Iranian nuclear facilities overnight on Sunday, calling it “an irresponsible decision to subject the territory of a sovereign state to missile and bomb strikes, no matter what arguments it is presented with.”
It is particularly alarming that the strikes were carried out by a country that is a permanent member of the UN Security Council,” the Kremlin says, adding that the US attack “blatantly violates international law, the UN Charter, and the resolutions of the UN Security Council, which has previously unambiguously qualified such actions as inadmissible.
Since February 2022, Russia, a permanent member of the UN Security Council, has been assaulting Ukraine on the ground and bombing Ukrainian cities as part of its unprovoked full-scale war. In reference to the US strikes, the Moscow statement added, “We urge to stop the aggression, to step up efforts to create conditions for returning the situation to the political and diplomatic track.” Vladimir Putin said at the St. Petersburg forum prior to Washington’s attack that Iran had not requested assistance since Israel’s air war started.
