In France, Massive Power Outages, Fatalities, and major Flooding Were all Caused by Storm Nils

In the aftermath of Storm Nils, France is still dealing with the effects of the storm, as some regions continue to be at risk of flooding. In recent weeks, a succession of storms have swept across the Iberian peninsula, affecting not just Portugal and Spain but also other countries located on the peninsula.

Parts of France continued to experience disruptions on Friday due to the aftermath of Storm Nils. Despite the fact that wind warnings have been cancelled, certain regions continue to be at danger for floods, as stated by the state forecaster Météo-France.”

We are increasing our vigilance because the forecast for the next forty-eight hours is uncertain,” said Vincent Gorse, a town councillor from La Réole, as the River Garonne continues to rise in the town of Gironde. An emergency shelter has been forced to provide new housing for twelve individuals.

Maud Bregeon, a spokesperson for the administration, explained to the local media that the storm was responsible for the deaths of at least two people.During the height of the storm, the network operator Enedis said that as many as 900,000 consumers were left without water or electricity. Beginning on Friday morning, the operator was able to restore service to almost half of individuals who had been affected.
