In Honor of King Charles III’s 77th Birthday, a New Image was Released

Buckingham Palace celebrated King Charles III’s 77th birthday on Friday by releasing a new official portrait of the monarch. The photograph, taken in May by Millie Pilkington, shows the King in the gardens of his Sandringham Estate in Norfolk, with the stately home forming a scenic backdrop.

Additional images, captured during the same shoot, feature Charles strolling through the gardens and tending to a maple sapling. The pictures were shared earlier this week in Country Life magazine to highlight the King’s restoration of Sandringham’s historic grounds.

Marking his birthday, King Charles and Queen Camilla attended a reception at Cyfarthfa Castle, located about 25 miles (40 kilometres) north of Cardiff. The King was presented with an enormous castle-shaped birthday cake, which he cheerfully cut into before officially opening the new South Wales Metro Train Depot. He even took a brief seat in the driver’s cabin of one of the new tram-trains and greeted well-wishers who had waited in the rain to see him.

In London, the traditional gun salutes echoed across the city from Green Park to Tower Bridge in honour of the monarch’s birthday. The celebrations will continue next summer with the Trooping the Colour parade, a grand spectacle featuring around 1,400 soldiers and officers marching from Buckingham Palace to Horse Guards Parade.
