Many of the largest tech businesses in the United States have joined Anthropic in its lawsuit against Trump administration officials.
Since Monday, Anthropic’s legal lawsuit to reverse Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s historic decision to classify it as a “supply chain risk” has received public support from Google, Amazon, Apple, and Microsoft.
The government’s reprisal against Anthropic for refusing to allow its technologies to be used in autonomous weaponry and mass surveillance was a fear raised by the tech titans in court documents.
Microsoft said that the government’s actions could have “broad negative ramifications for the entire technology sector.” AI tools “should not be used to conduct domestic mass surveillance or put the country in a position where autonomous machines could independently start a war,” according to Microsoft, which frequently collaborates with the US government and the Department of Defense (DoD).
Several organizations, including the Chamber of Progress, also filed a joint amicus, which is a filing by parties with a significant stake in a case. The government’s punishment of Anthropic for public speech has alarmed the tech advocacy group, which is supported by and represents Google, Apple, Amazon, Nvidia, and numerous other major businesses.
