Vladimir Putin claims that Russia is prepared to stop war, but “there are nuances” The subtleties he outlined before meetings with US envoys at the Kremlin are so crucial to his reasoning that they could ruin any chance of a 30-day ceasefire. He has made these requests throughout Russia’s full-scale invasion. Additionally, for Ukraine and its allies in the West. Many of them will turn out to be unsatisfactory or impossible to complete.

He began positively by saying, “We agree with the proposals to cease hostilities.” Still, he later added, “This cessation must be such that it would lead to long-term peace and eliminate the root causes of this crisis.

Long-term peace is unquestionably necessary, but Putin believes that Ukraine’s aspiration to be an independent nation outside of Russia’s sphere of influence is the primary cause of the conflict. Ukraine’s desire to join the European Union and NATO is so strong that it is spelled out in the constitution.

Although Putin has consistently rejected the notion of Ukraine as a state, President Trump has already questioned Ukraine’s eligibility to join NATO. This supports many of the subtleties he outlined.
