Kim Jong Un of North Korea Will be Present at China’s Military Parade

In what is thought to be his first international-level gathering of leaders, China’s foreign ministry announced that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un will participate in a military parade in Beijing on September 3.

The 80th anniversary of the end of World War Two and China’s war against Japan will be commemorated with the so-called “Victory Day” parade. It is anticipated that 26 heads of state would participate, including Russian President Vladimir Putin.

For the first time, China’s military is showcasing its new force structure in full during a parade, and it is anticipated to feature hundreds of planes, tanks, and anti-drone systems. Tens of thousands of military personnel, including soldiers from 45 of China’s alleged military echelons and veterans of the conflict, will march in formation through Tiananmen Square as part of the highly orchestrated procession.

Analysts and western nations are expected to keenly monitor the 70-minute procession, which Chinese leader Xi Jinping will survey. It will be a great photo opportunity for Kim to join China’s Xi and Russia’s Putin at the parade in the heart of Beijing. However, it will also be a significant diplomatic victory for Xi.

To put an end to the conflict in Ukraine, US President Donald Trump is attempting to reach an agreement with Putin. In the past week, he has also declared his desire to see Kim once more.
