The biggest performance of Lady Gaga’s career to date drew over two million spectators to Rio de Janeiro’s Copacabana Beach on Saturday night. The event was free of charge.
The Mother Monster, as she is called, opened the show with her 2011 song “Bloody Mary” at around 10:10 p.m. local time. As they sung and danced shoulder to shoulder over the wide expanse of beach, the crammed crowd of admirers let out cries of delight. Lady Gaga alternated between a variety of outfits, including one with the colours of the Brazilian flag, while she sang her timeless classics, such as “Poker Face” and “Alejandro.
Around 1.6 million people were anticipated to attend Lady Gaga’s concert, according to a recent estimate from Rio’s City Hall, which also stated that the performance should boost the city’s economy by at least 600 million reais, or €93.8 million.
In addition, Madonna transformed Copacabana Beach into a huge dance floor the previous year. In an attempt to stimulate economic activity following Carnival and New Year’s Eve celebrations, as well as the next month-long Saint John’s Day celebrations in June, City Hall is organising the massive shows.
