Tim Davie, the director general of the BBC, and Deborah Turness, the CEO of News, resigned on Sunday in response to allegations that a BBC Panorama report had deceived viewers by altering a speech by US President Donald Trump.
Deborah Turness, the CEO of news at the BBC, stated that “mistakes have been made” in a statement that was published on the BBC website. The BBC has been accused of purposefully misleading viewers by manipulating a speech by US President Donald Trump in a Panorama broadcast.
The BBC allegedly “doctored” a Trump address, giving the impression that he encouraged Capitol Hill rioters by promising to go with them to “fight like hell,” according to an internal whistleblower memo obtained by the British daily The Telegraph.
Indeed, on January 6, 2021, Trump declared, “We’re going to walk down to the Capitol, and we’re going to cheer on our brave senators and congressmen and women,” during his speech in Washington, DC.
The internal report claims that the documentary used video mixing to make the US president appear to say things he never actually uttered. Donald Trump Jr., Trump’s son, posted the item on X after it surfaced, saying, “The FAKE NEWS ‘reporters’ in the UK are just as dishonest and full as the ones here in America.
