Satellite Photos Reveal Radar Stations in Jordan and the United Arab Emirates That are Home to Important US Missile Interceptors

Iran is attempting to weaken air defenses by destroying US-made radars that detect incoming missiles and drones, according to recent satellite images from numerous critical military bases in the Arabian Peninsula.

According to a satellite image captured on Monday, the radar system of an American THAAD missile battery in Jordan was attacked and reportedly destroyed during the initial days of the US-Israeli strikes on Iran.

CNN’s analysis indicates that buildings harbouring comparable radar systems were also struck at two locations in the United Arab Emirates; however, it is uncertain whether the equipment was damaged.

The radar is a critical component of the high-end missile interceptor system, which is employed to engage and eliminate ballistic missiles as they approach their destination. The United States maintains eight THAAD batteries, while the United Arab Emirates maintains two and Saudi Arabia maintains one. This individual was located at the Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan, which is more than 500 miles from Iran.

The AN/TPY-2 transportable radar, which is manufactured by Raytheon, serves as the radar system for THAADs. According to the 2025 budget of the Missile Defense Agency, the cost is just short of half a billion dollars.
