A UN-Backed Project Claims That the “Man-Made” Hunger in Gaza City is Going to Expand

A United Nations-backed effort said on Friday that parts of Gaza are officially facing a “man-made” famine, adding that the situation is likely to get worse following months of unrelenting fightingFamine has been verified in the Gaza Governorate, which includes Gaza City, which is currently the scene of a significant new Israeli onslaught, according to the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC).

The research stated that since this famine is wholly human-caused, it may be stopped and even reversed. “Starvation is here and is spreading quickly; the time for discussion and indecision is over. Nobody should question the necessity of a quick, large-scale reaction.

The IPC demanded a ceasefire immediately, stating that “avoidable deaths will increase exponentially” in the absence of a truce that permits humanitarian supplies to reach all residents of the Gaza Strip. Israel has occasionally limited or stopped the flow of supplies into the devastated enclave throughout the almost two years of conflict in Gaza.

Some have perished from malnutrition and famine, while others have perished while attempting to obtain help at distribution points managed by the contentious Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), which is supported by the US and Israel and was established to replace a UN system that Israel had long criticized.

Ahead of its publication, the Israeli organization responsible for delivering aid into Gaza, the Coordination of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT), dismissed the IPC study, claiming it “relies on partial, biased data and superficial information originating from Hamas.
