Mark Zuckerberg Presents Meta’s Latest AI-Powered Smart Glasses

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg on Wednesday introduced the company’s latest step in wearable technology: AI-powered smart glasses equipped with a built-in display inside the lens. The new device, called Meta Ray-Bans Display, aims to reduce reliance on phone screens by letting users interact directly with Meta’s artificial intelligence, access messages, view photos, and stay connected through glasses designed to look similar to regular eyewear or sunglasses.

The announcement came during Zuckerberg’s keynote at Meta’s annual Connect event, held in Menlo Park, California. Alongside the Display glasses, Meta also revealed updated wearable products, including the Gen 2 Ray-Ban smart glasses, new sport-focused Meta Oakley Vanguard glasses, and fresh experiences for its Quest 3 virtual reality headset — such as immersive games and a partnership with Disney+ for its Horizon metaverse platform.

Zuckerberg emphasised that these launches are part of Meta’s bigger mission to weave AI more tightly into everyday life, as the company competes with other tech giants to dominate the rapidly evolving AI and wearable market. Although smart glasses are still a niche segment, they are seeing increasing consumer adoption. Ray-Ban’s parent company EssilorLuxottica reported in July that revenue from Meta smart glasses had more than tripled year-over-year. Looking ahead, Meta plans to scale up production, aiming to manufacture up to 10 million pairs annually starting in 2026.
