State-level prosecutors in Bosnia issued arrest warrants on Wednesday for three high-ranking Bosnian Serb leaders, including Milorad Dodik, president of the Republika Srpska (RS), the country’s Serb-majority entity in the Western Balkans.

Dodik, who has previously stated that he does not recognize the state-level prosecutor’s office in the nation, has denied the validity of the warrant and any attempts to have him arrested. He has also stated that he will not travel to Sarajevo to be questioned.

“For the sake of the Republika Srpska, I am willing to bear any kind of hardship or blow. “I will never leave the Republika Srpska, and Milorad Dodik will fulfill his duties,” the Bosnian Serb leader declared Wednesday in Banjaluka, the de facto capital of the country.

The warrant also names the entity’s Prime Minister Radovan Višković and National Assembly Speaker Nenad Stevandić, in addition to the Bosnian Serb leader, and charges them with anti-constitutional behavior by the prosecutor’s office.

In late February, a state-level court in Bosnia found Dodik guilty of committing a crime by defying the rulings of Christian Schmidt, the nation’s international peace envoy. Dodik may file an appeal, and the decision is not final.
