Next Week, Zelenskiy Wants More High-Level Discussions on Security Assurances

As European Union defense ministers promised to train Kyiv’s soldiers on Ukrainian territory in the case of a truce, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy urged partners on Friday to quickly advance discussions on security assurances for Ukraine to the level of leaders. Kyiv is attempting to finish Russia’s conflict, which is currently in its fourth year, diplomatically and is obtaining significant pledges from its allies to prevent another invasion.

Zelenskiy also brought up Trump’s self-imposed deadline for deciding on further anti-Russian actions if President Vladimir Putin does not agree to meet with the Ukrainian leader one-on-one. On Monday, there will be two weeks. We’ll remind everyone,” he added.

According to Zelenskiy, Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, who is also in New York, is expected to meet with American business officials to discuss investments in Ukraine. Kyiv officials believe that U.S. assistance is essential to ensuring a long-lasting peace agreement, particularly in relation to a crucial minerals agreement reached earlier this year.

According to EU top diplomat Kaja Kallas, European Union defense ministers gathered in Copenhagen on Friday voiced “broad support” for extending the bloc’s military training mission to operate inside Ukraine.
