According to a court hearing, Erin Patterson, a convicted triple murderer, attempted to poison her husband on many occasions, including with cookies she said their daughter had baked him. The Australian lady was convicted last month of using a poisonous mushroom-laced beef Wellington to kill three relatives and attempt to kill another.
On the eve of her trial, the 50-year-old’s initial allegations of three counts of attempted murder against her estranged husband Simon Patterson were withdrawn. For the first time, the specifics of the accusations, which Patterson refuted, can finally be made public after being kept secret to safeguard the processes.
In the days after the lunch on July 29, 2023, three persons passed away in the hospital: Gail Patterson, 70, and Don Patterson, 70, Patterson’s former in-laws; and Heather Wilkinson, 66, Gail’s sister. Following weeks of medical care, Heather’s husband, local preacher Ian Wilkinson, made a full recovery. Mr. Patterson was invited to the lunch as well, but he abruptly withdrew.
Judges and parties can decide whether evidence is admissible or permitted to be shown to a jury at pre-trial hearings, which are common in many cases. In this instance, Mr. Patterson’s testimony was not included since the accusations against him were withdrawn.
