US negotiators are meeting with the Russians separately after holding discussions with their Ukrainian counterparts in the Saudi capital, Riyadh.

Washington wants to bring about a full peace agreement after an immediate partial ceasefire in the conflict in Ukraine. Could the breakthrough so many are hoping for come from these discussions in Riyadh? I think he (Putin) wants peace,” stated Steve Witkoff, President Trump’s personal envoy, adding, “I think you’re going to see some real progress in Saudi Arabia on Monday.”

However, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov has tempered expectations. He said, “We are only at the beginning of this path,” on state television in Russia. Russian drones launched one of their most intense attacks on Kyiv on Saturday night, killing three people, including a five-year-old girl.

In his evening speech on Sunday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated, “We must pressure Putin to issue a genuine order to halt the strikes.” “The one who brought this war must take it away.

It appears that the Kremlin is not in a rush to agree to a ceasefire, as Vladimir Putin has added a number of “nuances” or preconditions before accepting the 30-day truce that Kyiv and Washington agreed upon.

The US-Ukraine negotiations got underway in Riyadh shortly after dusk on Sunday, behind closed doors in one of the kingdom’s many opulent establishments, with the Ukrainian team led by Rustem Umerov, the defence minister of Saudi Arabia.
