Russia Launches Major Overnight Attack on Kyiv, Killing at Least Four

At least four people, including children, were killed after Russia launched a massive overnight assault on multiple Ukrainian cities, with Kyiv, the capital, suffering the heaviest damage. The attack involved a barrage of drones and missiles, marking the first significant strike on Kyiv since last month’s aerial campaign that killed nearly two dozen people.

Tymur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv City Administration, confirmed the casualties on his official Telegram channel, noting that at least 10 others were injured. The attack targeted mainly civilian areas, including homes and residential buildings. Among the dead was a 12-year-old girl. Thick black smoke was reported near the city centre following the blasts.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the “savage strikes” in a post on X, stating that nearly 500 drones and more than 40 missiles, including Kinzhal ballistic missiles, were used in the 12-hour attack. Zelenskyy said the primary targets included Kyiv and the surrounding region, as well as Zaporizhzhia, Khmelnytskyi, Sumy, Mykolaiv, Chernihiv, and Odesa.

Four people have been reported killed in Kyiv, including a 12-year-old girl. Across Ukraine, at least 40 people have been injured, including children,” Zelenskyy wrote, extending his condolences to the victims’ families. He also highlighted that civilian infrastructure, such as a bread production facility and a tyre manufacturing plant, was hit during the strikes.
