After months of turmoil in politics, Kosovars will cast ballots in parliamentary elections.

In order to elect 120 members of parliament, two million voters were anticipated to cast ballots in Kosovo on Sunday for the second time in 2025. A caretaker administration ruled for nearly ten months after the February 9 elections, which failed to produce a cabinet, and attempts to form a coalition were unsuccessful.

According to the Central Electoral Commission, 8.27% of registered voters had cast their ballots by 11:00 (12:00 in Greece and Cyprus), about the same as at the same time in past elections. Albin Kurti has refused to make concessions in his role as acting prime minister. His insistence on a single candidate for the position of speaker led to 50 meaningless votes, and even the formal creation of parliament took months.

Whether Sunday’s elections will end the political impasse is still up in the air. Although Kurti’s Self-Determination Movement (LVV) is unlikely to receive more than 50% of the vote, which is required to elect 61 MPs, analysts in Kosovo expect that the party will once again take the lead. The LVV elected 48 MPs with 42.3% of the vote in the last election on February 9.
