The Massive’ Russian Attack has Left a Ukrainian City Completely Blacked Out

After what the authorities describe as a “massive  attack by Russian drones and missiles, hundreds of thousands of inhabitants in the Ukrainian city of Chernihiv are completely without power. In the town of Novhorod-Siverskyi, residential neighborhoods were hit, resulting in four reported deaths throughout the larger Chernihiv region. A girl of ten years old was among the ten other people hurt.

Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine has targeted homes, businesses, the rail system, and energy sources, with the country’s most northern area becoming the most recent victim of an increasing number of attacks on civilian infrastructure.

Speaking matter-of-factly, the inhabitant of Chernihiv city described a night that was filled with the low whine of Iranian-designed Shahed drones, a sound that is increasingly being heard far from the front lines of the conflict.

He added an expletive just for good effect. Unfortunately, our region is very close to our cunning neighbor, he stated. Because the Chernihiv region is bordered by both Belarus and Russia, its air defenses have less time to respond to any potential threats.

More than 100 Shahed drones, each with a 50 kg bomb, and six ballistic missiles were used in the raid. The direct hits on Chernihiv’s power plants left the entire city and a major portion of the surrounding territory without energy.
