The European Union (EU) has declared that the Chinese fast-fashion website Shein is in violation of the law through its use of pressure selling, fake discounts, and other tactics. According to the group, Shein has one month to address its findings or risk sanctions depending on its sales in the EU nations where it allegedly violated the law.
“It’s time for Shein to take charge, follow the regulations, and align its operations with EU consumer standards,” stated Michael McGrath, the EU’s justice commissioner. Ensuring that European consumers can have a safe, dependable, and enjoyable online shopping experience remains our top priority,” a Shein representative stated.
On Monday, the EU said that “a broad range of practices with which consumers are confronted while shopping on Shein and that are in breach of EU law” had been discovered during its continuing investigation by the EU’s consumer rights watchdog. Among these were false information, dishonest product labelling, false sustainability claims, and concealed contact information.
Additionally, it discovered cases of feigning to give better offers by displaying price reductions that weren’t based on the previous rates and fabricating deadlines to compel customers into making a purchase. Additionally, the EU has requested that Shein ensure that its ratings and evaluations of its products are “not misleadingly presented to consumers.
