Police say the shooter was captivated by school shootings, but they don’t know why. The murderer committed himself after murdering ten people at the BORG Dreierschützengasse high school in Graz. It had been three years since he left the school.
The bloodiest mass shooting in Austria’s recent history occurred in the country’s second-largest city. Investigators can “say with certainty that, over the years, he developed a passion for school shootings,” according to Michael Lohnegger, head of the criminal police office in Styria province, even if his motivation for the act is still unknown.
He exalted the criminals who committed these crimes and the acts themselves. Investigators found that the gunman had carefully planned the assault, but they were unsure of why he selected the day for the slaughter or why he stopped firing at that point when he still had a lot of extra ammunition.
There was no past criminal record for the gunman. Police searched his home and discovered a non-working pipe bomb and plans for an explosive attack.
Additionally, officers found a handwritten and digital suicide note that was addressed to his parents, but Franz Ruf, the Director of Public Security, stated that it did not explain.
