The State Security Service (SSS) of Azerbaijan declared on Friday that it had prevented terrorist attacks against four sites in the country by Iranian intelligence agents. According to Azerbaijan’s media, the targets include the Ashkenazi synagogue, the Israeli Embassy in Azerbaijan, a prominent figure in the nation’s Mizrahi Jewish population, and the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline.

According to the SSS, “Iran’s intelligence service SEPAH organized the sequence of planned terrorist and intelligence operations, designating local operatives to carry out surveillance, obtain weapons, and ensure transportation. According to authorities, Iranian individuals worked with Azerbaijani collaborators to carry explosives into the nation.

In the Sabail area, more than 7.7 kg of C-4 explosives were discovered in a container close to the Shikhov settlement. A remote-controlled bomb with a 250–300 meter radius was among the other devices found in the Garadagh neighborhood. Several people were apprehended by Azerbaijani authorities after precautionary actions. Due to their involvement in the terrorist conspiracy, four received sentences of six years and six months in jail.

Colonel Ali Asgar Bordbar Sherami, a SEPAH officer, was recognized by officials as a significant organizer. The international wanted list now includes a number of Iranian nationals who were involved in the scheme.
